Annotation
Babelfish translation of the text on the website:
The 12th of October of 1892, during the celebration of the Fourth Centenary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the New World, the representatives of the Italian colony of Mérida decided to command to make a bust on a historical pedestal to be placed in some point of the city. Three years later, during the public celebrations of the Day of the Race, the monument was unveiled in the middle of the old colonial seat of the Church of the Cármen.
In 2004 the bust is removed from its socle.
