A few years earlier, in 1977, a park on Shrewsbury Avenue was named Cristoforo Colombo Park. A plaque says: "The Italo Americans of Worcester, with the approval of the city council and the park commission, renamed this park on Sept. 27, 1977, to honor the great Italian navigator."
The Washington Square is being redeveloped (as is visible on Google Earth).
