Columbian Fair, Machinery Hall

Christopher Columbus at Machinery Hall

Statue (no longer existing)

1893

Chicago / Christopher Columbus at Machinery Hall

Description

Concrete statue, made for the 1893 Columbian Exposition World’s Fair, on display at the north entrance of Machinery Hall.

Annotation

Alan Gornik wrote me:
I have a Tribune newspaper article that says that this statue was destined to be displayed later at Chicago’s Garfield Park, but that apparently never happened. Being of concrete, I think it would not have held up well in our weather. So I think this statue is no longer existing.
