Annotation
The square at the south side of Rota's Castillo de Luna (now town hall) is named after Bartolomé Pérez, who participated on Columbus' second voyage to the New World. Pérez was pilot of one of the caravels, the San Juan. In Rota there are four memorials for Pérez, three on the square named after him, and a short distance away, there is another monument, donated by the Naval Base. Columbus is mentioned on two of these memorials, but he seem to be considered as a less important foreigner, as the 1892 plaque shows clearly in the size of the lettering.
