Description
In Palos de la Frontera I found three streets, where the street sign was accompanied by an exta memorial.
- Calle Cristóbal Colón, the main street of the town, shows near the main square of town the coat-of-arms of Columbus with the text "Escudos de armas del Almirante".
- Calle Vicente Yañez Pinzón, near the church of San Jorge Mártir, shows a tile plaque with a portrait with explanatory text: "Vicente Yañez Pinzón (1450-1514), Capitan de la carabela Niña. Descubridor del Brasil y el Amazonas. Capitan general y corregidor de la isla de Puerto Rico" Translation: Vincent Yáñez Pinzón (1450 - 1514), Captain of the caravel Niña. Discoverer of Brazil and the Amazon. Captain general and chief magistrate of the island of Puerto Rico). It is placed their by the town of Palos on 15 March 1989.
- Calle Santa Maria, has a special wall with a tile plaque of the Santa Maria en the explanatory text: "Santa Maria, nao capitane por Cristobal Colon en el descubrimiento de America 1492. Al naufragar, se se construye con sus restos el Fuerte Navidad en la Isla Española, primer asentamiento de Españoles en el Nuevo Mundo" (Translation: Santa María, captain nao by Christopher Columbus in the discovery of America 1492. When it wrecked, the Fort of Nativity was built with its rubble in the island Hispaniola, first Spaniards' settlement in the New World).
Probably there are more, but we could not drive or walk through all streets of town.
