Description
Statue of Columbus and Isabella.
- The group shows Queen Isabella seated on a Gothic chair, listening to the plans of Columbus who is standing in front of her.
- The pedestal has on its sides two large bass-reliefs, one of which represents a battle at Velez Malaga, and the other the signing of the agreement between Columbus and the Catholic Kings. In the front face are two allegorical figures representing Granada and America, in the act of raising a tapestry covering the plinth, on which are inscribed January 2, 1492, the date of the surrender of Granada, and October 12, 1492, the date of the discovery of America.
