Left figure:
φιλομαθης
Philomathes [he who loves learning]
Right figure:
πολυμαθης
Polymathes [he who has much learning]
In between both statues, on archway:
MDCXXX
ΔΙΔΑΣΚΑΛΕΙΟΝ
ΕΑΝ ΗΣ ΕΣΗ
Based on a quote from Isocrates, "εαν ης φιλομαθης, εσει πολυμαθης", If you are studious (loving learning), you will be(come) learned.
Διδασκαλειον means "school"
Annotation
The current Library and Museum building was formerly the Shrewsbury School building, built between 1590s and 1630.
