Description

Tall shaped piece of Welsh slate carved to a peak set on a slate base. At the top of the stone is a replica gold seal showing Owain Glyndŵr. It shows Owain seated on what seems to be an elaborately carved throne, perhaps with arms shaped like dragons, beneath a gothic canopy of state and holding a sceptre in the style of the obverse of the King of England's seal. However, Owain is apparently uncrowned and his feet are set upon two lions while angels hold up a cloth behind him emblazoned with the lions rampant of the arms of the House of Aberffraw. The words 'princeps wallie' are legible on the left hand edge of the seal. Owen appears to be wearing an overmantle, probably of ermine.is a reproduction of the only seal known.

The seal is surrounded by the inscription:

OWAIN GLYNDŴR
tywysog cymru - prince of wales

Inscription(s)

On the front is a plaque with poetry by Dafydd Wyn Jones:

Owain, tydi ywn dyhead, - Owain
Ti piau'n harddeliad,
Piau'r her yn ein parhad
A ffrewyll ein deffroad.
