Description

Bronze statue of Kepler sitting on a chair looking to the sky. His left arm rests on a celestial globe, in his left hand he holds a scroll and in his right hand a pair of compasses. The statue is placed on an square red sandstone pedestal with chamfered corners.

On the sides are reliefs of Astronomy and three scenes of Kepler's life.

Brahe and Kepler as court astronomers in Prague. Kepler sits at a table with a scroll of astromia nova, on the table his edition of the Rudolpjine Tables (tab. rudolphi), and behind the table the top part of the Temple of Astronomy. Tycho Brahe standing next to him shows a armillary sphere, with a tablet Systema Tichonis de Brahe. To the right stands emperor Rudolph II looking at the scene. Annotation

The statue was unveiled 24 June 1870. The present sandstone replaced the original, more decorative pedestal.
