Annotation

This one of a series of eight fountains in different olympics areas of Barcelona. They were commissioned by Josep Antón Acebillo of the IMPU (Barcelona's Municipal Institute of Urban Projects) to commemorate the zones which were remodelled for the 1992 Olympic Games. Instead of creating a prototype for the commemorative fountain, Tusquets preferred to opt for the individuality of each piece, while giving a family likeness to the whole group. Eight sites were chosen for eight drinking fountains, next to the fountains with sculptures by Juan Bordes. The common motif was the presence of an adolescent playing with water in a variety of poses on each fountain. Three of these figures were stolen and they had to be adapted and remodelled using a vandal-proof base.
All fountains are designed by Óscar Tusquets Blanca and sculpted by Juan Bordes.
