There are four saints' statues at the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche: Sts. Peter and Paul flanking the stairs in front of the main (west) entrance, these were donated in 1603 by Canon Moritz von Sode. The north portal is flanked by statues of St. Joseph and St. John of Nepomuk, which were donated in 1733 by Dean Johann Hermann Heerde. Above this north portal is a niche with a statue of Christ.

Sankt Paulus / Saint Paul, the Apostle, (c. 5 - c. 67 ), persecuted the early followers of Jesus before switching sides and seeking to join them. He was instrumental in creating the Christian Church. He is the protector of tent-makers, theologians and the ecclesiastical press and is depicted with a sword.

Sankt Joseph mit Jesus / Saint Joseph with Jesus In a shield below the statue is the inscription: reverendissimvs iohannes hermann heerde in signis collegiatae ecclesiae hildesii ad s. crvcem decanvs |
Sankt Johannes von Nepomuk / Saint John of Nepomuk, (Nepomuk c. 1345 - Praha 1393), confessor of the queen of Bohemia, refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. At the behest of King Wenceslaus of Bohemia he was thrown from the Charles Bridge in Prague and drowned. John of Nepomuk is patron saint of bridges (Wikipedia) On the pedestal a episcopal coat of arms of dean Heerde with a depiction of St. George slaying the dragon. |
