Description

Frieze with eight saint statues in niches above the entrance of the Église de la Visitation de la Sainte-Vierge, built by the Brussels architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar (Kampen, the Netherlands 1811-Brussel 1880), in 1870-74.

The eight statues are, from left to right:

  1. St. Éloi / St. Eligius (c. 588-660) Bishop with hammer, patron saint of goldsmiths (Wikipedia).

  5. St. Joseph with a lily.
  6. Ste. Barbe / St. Barbara, crowned, and holding a tower and a sword. known in the Eastern Orthodox Church as the Great Martyr Barbara, was an early Christian saint and martyr (Wikipedia).

Annotation

The statue can be made by the Antwerp sculptor Gerard Vander Linden (1830-1911), who made some sculptural work for the interior of the chuch.
